Emily Craig, Student Writer, University Communications FLORENCE, Ala. - For the last four years, the UNA Outdoor Adventure Center and the UNA Department of Communications have worked together to screen the films of the Southern Exposure Film Fellowship for UNA Earth Day. This year the UNA Center for Sustainability is coordinating the UNA Earth Day events, of which the screening is a part. The screening will take place April 18, in the Communications building, room 131 at 5:45 p.m. A panel discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. The film will air as part of UNA's Earth Day festivities and fits in with the Department of Communications' First Amendment Awareness Month. Jeanne Baughman, administrative assistant for Department of Communications, said the idea for the event started about four years ago. "Patrick Shremshock, from Outdoor Adventure Center, originally came up with the idea to show the films on UNA's Earth Day," Baughman said. "He approached the Office of Communications to partner with us, because the Film and Digital Media Production program is in our department." Baughman said the panel is a way to tell people how they can take action in Alabama's environmental issues. "The Southern Exposure films are specific to Alabama's Environmental issues," she said. "The panel will discuss these issues, which is where our tagline: Watch, listen, and get involved, comes from." Panel members include: Christina Andreen, Charles Rose, Janice Barrett, Amanda Coffman and Moderator, Butler Cain. All of the panelists were selected from different backgrounds related to environmental expertise. All Earth day events are free and open to the public.
