FLORENCE, Ala. - Tragedy can affect people in many different ways and it can also cause us to form connections that might not have been made otherwise. At least that's the premise for The Guys, a new production from the University of North Alabama Theatre in recognition of the 15-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
The Guys will run Sep. 9 and 10, at 7:30 p.m., and Sep. 11, at 2 p.m., in the George S. Lindsey Theatre on UNA's campus.
The play, written by Anne Nelson, follows Nick, a fire captain who has been paralyzed by grief and unable to put his thoughts into words, until he seeks out the help of a writer to compose eulogies for the colleagues and friends he lost in the catastrophic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
Joan, an editor by trade, draws Nick out about "the guys"; powerful profiles emerge, revealing vivid personalities, and the substance and meaning that lie beneath the surface of seemingly unremarkable people.
Tickets are $10 for the public or $5 for UNA students, faculty and staff.
