Actress Natalie Canerday To Emcee Film Festival Special Event And Awards Show

FLORENCE, Ala. - Award-winning actress and longtime friend of the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival Natalie Canerday will return to the festival next month to emcee A Salute to George Lindsey and the 2011 Awards Show. A Salute to George Lindsey will be held March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Guillot University Center banquet halls, and the annual Awards Show and After Party will be held March 5 at 7 p.m. at the UNA East Campus Culinary Center, 1640 Tune Avenue, Florence. Ticket locations are available at www.lindseyfilmfest.com. Canerday is a native of Russellville, Ark., and a graduate of Hendrix College. She has appeared in more than 25 films, from the big-budget box office favorites "October Sky," "Walk the Line" and "Biloxi Blues" to the no-budget critically acclaimed independent films "One False Move," "Sling Blade" and "Shotgun Stories." For her performance in "One False Move," Canerday received a Two-Minute Oscar from Interview Magazine. In 1997, she and the cast of "Sling Blade" were nominated for Best Ensemble Performance at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2000, she was invited to participate in the prestigious Sundance Institute Filmmaker's Lab along with Sally Field, Jake Gyllenhaal, Khandi Alexander, Michael Shannon and others. Canerday is slated to appear in Tonya S. Holly's historical feature "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde." The 14th annual George Lindsey UNA Film Festival will be held March 3-5 in Florence. It is one of the few film festivals hosted by a university. The event was founded in 1998 in part by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor and entertainer George Lindsey. Lindsey's own film career has included several important roles, including the character Goober Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show."
